Wi-Fi privacy policy

1.  Application and acceptance of this Privacy Policy

The purpose of this document is to explain the way in which Brussels Airport handles personal data from users of the free Brussels Airport Wi-Fi network. This network is offered under the name Brussels Airport free Wi-Fi.

When first accessing the Brussels Airport Wi-Fi network, the terms of this Privacy Policy must be explicitly accepted together with the Terms of Use. The Privacy Policy can be downloaded or printed from the Brussels Airport website.

By using the Brussels Airport Wi-Fi network upon acceptance of this Privacy Policy, you explicitly agree that Brussels Airport or its trusted serviced providers process the personal data described herein. We shall not authorize these service providers to use or disclose your personal data, except as strictly necessary to perform any services under our supervision or to comply with applicable legislation. We guarantee that your personal data shall only be disclosed to such service providers insofar as necessary for them to perform their specific function.

2.  Who is responsible for the processing of your personal data?

The party responsible for the processing of your personal data collected in the context of the offering of the Brussels Airport Wi-Fi network is Brussels Airport Company N.V./S.A., having its registered seat at Topos Merode, Priester Cuypersstraat 3 Rue Abbé Cuypers, 1040 Etterbeek, Brussels, having its place of business at Brussels Airport (Compass Building), B-1930 Zaventem, registered in the Crossroads Bank of Enterprises under the number 0890.082.292 (hereafter “Brussels Airport”).

Any questions you have in relation to this Privacy Policy, your personal data processed by Brussels Airport as a result of your use of the Brussels Airport Wi-Fi network or your rights under applicable legislation can be addressed to us via privacy@brusselsairport.be.  

You remain responsible yourself for the content and confidentiality of any information or personal data transmitted while using the Brussels Airport Wi-Fi network.

3.  What information does Brussels Airport collect from you and why?

Brussels Airport only collects and further processes personal data from users of the Brussels Airport Wi-Fi network when such data are necessary to ensure the connection to the service and further optimal delivery thereof, in particular:

  • the MAC address of the mobile device you use to connect to the Brussels Airport Wi-Fi network;
  • the e-mail address or social media public profile you provide to us for your registration to the Brussels Airport Wi-Fi network.
  • the e-mail address if you subscribe to the Brussels Airport newsletter.

Brussels Airport will not:

  • Use your personal data for other purposes than the one described in this Privacy Policy;
  • Collect personal data contained in the information transmitted while using the Brussels Airport Wi-Fi network;
  • Transfer your personal data to third parties unless where required for the functioning of the Brussels Airport Wi-Fi network or when required by competent law enforcement authorities through a formal request for compliance with legal obligations.

4.  How does Brussels Airport process your personal data?

Brussels Airport processes any personal data diligently and in compliance with applicable data protection laws and regulations.

Your personal data are kept

  • Securely and confidentially in an environment that is not accessible to the public;
  • As long as necessary to ensure delivery of the service and additionally for a period of three (3) years as of your acceptance of the Terms of Use.

5.  Your rights

We shall process your personal data solely in a fair and lawfully manner, which includes that the personal data shall only be processed for the explicit and legitimate purposes as set out in this privacy policy. We ensure that the processed personal data is adequate, accurate, relevant and not excessive. However, you, as a data subject, are also granted several rights relating to the personal data you have shared with us, so that it is you who will remain in full control of your personal data. More in particular, you are granted the following rights:

  • The right of access to your personal data;
  • The right to correct inaccurate personal data;
  • The right to erasure;
  • The right to restrict data processing;
  • The right to object to data processing;
  • The right to data portability;
  • The right not to be subject to automated individual decision making, including profiling.

6.  Applicable law and jurisdiction

This Privacy Policy is governed by Belgian law.

Any conflict that may arise in relation to this Privacy Policy will be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Brussels.

7.  Amendments to the privacy statement

The Privacy Policy in force is always the one at the moment of log-in to the Brussels Airport WIFI network. Any changes will be posted on the website of Brussels Airport Company and will have to be accepted at the moment of log in.
