12th Brussels Airport Aviation Awards

This year, Brussels Airport Company continues its annual tradition of presenting the Brussels Airport Aviation Awards. The airport bestows these awards to honour those airlines and partners that have distinguished themselves over the preceding year in terms of network and cargo development, environment and safety, and punctuality and performance.

The Network Development Awards go to airlines that have launched new routes or achieved significant growth in passenger or cargo volumes.

  • Short Haul Airline Network Development Award: Georgian Airways and TUI fly

    This year, this award goes to two airlines. Georgian Airways, for the commencement of two weekly flights to the capital Tbilisi, and TUI fly for the further expansion of their holiday flight network from Brussels Airport to Kalamata and Lesbos, and a passenger growth in excess of 10% in 2018. The other nominees in this category were Air France, Brussels Airlines and Iberia.

  • Long Haul Airline Network Development Award:Cathay Pacific

    Since the summer season of 2018, Cathay Pacific has operated four weekly flights to Hong Kong with their state-of-the-art Airbus A350. The other nominees were Ethiopian Airlines, Hainan Airlines, RwandAir and TUI fly.

  • Cargo Airline Network Development Award: LATAM Cargo

    Last year, LATAM Cargo launched new cargo flights from the South American continent via Miami to Brussels Airport. The other nominees were Asiana Airlines, Avianca Cargo, DHL Aviation and Turkish Airlines.

  • Brucargo Award: WFS – Worldwide Flight Services

    In 2018, WFS pursued an open and constructive collaboration with the airlines and invested in new state-of-the-art facilities. The other nominees were Brinks, Brussels Airlines, Nallian and YAN - Young Airfreight Network.

  • Logistics Provider Award: DHL Global Forwarding

    In 2018, DHL Global Forwarding assumed a leading role in new pharma and BRU Cloud digitisation projects. The other nominees were Bpost, Freight4U Logistics, Kuehne + Nagel and Skyfas

The Environment and Safety Awards are presented to airlines or partners that have made a special contribution to the environment and the on-going improvement of safety standards and awareness.

  • Environment Award: Thai Airways International

    Thai Airways International bagged this year’s environment award in recognition of its modern A350-900, which flies to Bangkok five times a week, and has the best per passenger performance in terms of noise and emissions.

  • Safety Award: Tec4Jets

    Tec4Jets demonstrates a particularly positive and pro-active attitude towards aviation safety and thus scarcely features in the accident and incident statistics at Brussels Airport. Tec4Jets is 'best in class' for audits and support in training and sharing of expertise.

The Performance and Punctuality Awards are presented to passenger and cargo airlines that excel in punctuality and performance. Punctuality implies the best on-time performance, i.e. an arrival or departure within 15 minutes of its scheduled time. Cargo performance is calculated using the number of weekly flights, number of destinations, total quantity of cargo flown, cargo per flight and growth in cargo tonnage.

  • Cargo Airline Performance Award: Singapore Airlines Cargo

    Singapore Airlines operates an extensive network from Brussels Airport to America and Asia. The other nominees were Asiana Airlines, Avianca Cargo, DHL Aviation and Turkish Airlines.

  • Short Haul Airline Punctuality Award: Eurowings

    Eurowings was the most punctual airline in 2018, with an on-time performance of 86% for its three daily flights to Stuttgart. Eurowings also operated flights to Berlin and Salzburg in 2018. The other most punctual short haul airlines were Aeroflot, Iberia, Finnair, KLM.

  • Long Haul Airline Punctuality Award: ANA

    ANA is the long-haul flight winner for the second consecutive year, with an on-time performance of 88% for its daily flights to Tokyo. The other nominees were Emirates, Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways and Thai Airways International.
