20 aircraft enthusiasts get unique visit at Brussels Airport during seventh Spotters' Day

On Thursday August 8th, Brussels Airport organised its seventh Spotters' Day. Twenty aircraft enthusiasts were given the opportunity to take amazing photos of their favourite aircraft from the tarmac. They also got a unique look behind the scenes of the airport, including a visit of the cargo operations.   

The Spotters' Day at Brussels Airport is a high day for plane spotters. More than 300 aviation geeks took part in the contest, but only the twenty winners were invited to Brussels Airport on 1 August for a unique look behind the scenes of the airport.   

The spotters were escorted onto the tarmac, allowing them to take pictures of aircraft taking off and landing from a short, but safe, distance. Several aircraft with special livery passed through for the occasion: for example, an Etihad Airways “Formula One” livery and a special "Barcelona" livery from Vueling. 

The aircraft enthusiasts also visited the Brussels Airlines' hangar, where they were explained about aircraft maintenance and got to see some aircraft from up close. They also were taken on a tour of the airport's cargo site where they attended a demo with DHL's new electric ground handling equipment.  

Plane spotters have been finding their way to Brussels Airport for years to take pictures of various aircraft. The large number of airlines (more than 70 in total), the special liveries and the operations at Brussels Airport even attract people from abroad. Since 2018, spotters can also visit the two spotting platforms on the airport perimeter which offer a great view of the runways. From there, spotters can safely take pictures of the planes.
