In April, Brussels Airport welcomed almost 2 million passengers, an increase of 5.6% compared with April 2023. This was thanks to the introduction of several new routes, including Nouvelair to Monastir, Air Arabia to Tétouan and Brussels Airlines to Krakow. Brussels Airport also welcomed two new airlines: Singapore Airlines and Wideroe. Total cargo volume rose by 2.9% to almost 63,000 tons.
In April, Brussels Airport welcomed 1,957,165 passengers, 5.6% more than in April 2023. The addition by United Airlines of a second daily flight to Newark, as well as the launch of several new routes, had a positive impact on passenger numbers. Nouvelair now operates from Brussels Airport to Monastir (Tunisia), Air Arabia to Tétouan (Morocco) and Brussels Airlines to Krakow (Poland). In April, Brussels Airport was pleased to welcome two new airlines: Singapore Airlines, which flies 4 times a week to Singapore, and Wideroe, which flies twice a week to Bergen (Norway).
Transfer passengers made up 11.6% of the departing passengers, with an increase in the number of intercontinental passengers.
The top 10 countries in April were Spain, Italy, Germany, Türkiye, Portugal, the United States, Morocco, France, Switzerland and Greece.
Total cargo volumes through Brussels Airport increased by 2,9% in April compared to April 2023, totaling 62,715 tons. Flown cargo volumes were also up by 2.7%, totaling 53,143 tons.
The full freighter segment recorded an increase of 1.5%, with belly cargo growing by almost 20%, in line with the increased capacity of passenger flights. Express services lost 5%, while trucked volumes rose by almost 4%.
The main import regions are Asia, with a strong increase compared to April 2023, due to an increase in e-commerce, Africa and North America. The main export region is again Asia, followed by Africa and North America.
16,275 aircraft movements were recorded in April, up 2% on April 2023. The number of passenger flights was 2.2% up on 2023. In April 2024, there were an average of 145 passengers per flight, five passengers more than the previous year. The number of cargo flights fell by almost 3%, mainly due to decrease of flights in the Integrator segment.
