Second call Brussels Airport Fund for sustainable projects in the local area launched

Environment

Connecting people, businesses and communities is Brussels Airport's primary mission. That is why the airport has long supported charities that make a positive difference and bring people together. With the launch of the new call for projects of the Brussels Airport Fund, managed by the King Baudouin Foundation, Brussels Airport aims to further emphasize its societal role. Through this Fund, organizations near the airport can apply for support for sustainable projects through an annual thematic call.

Brussels Airport has long supported charities and initiatives that make a positive difference and bring people together, both nationally and locally. For example, Brussels Airport is an official partner of the Royal Belgian Hockey Association. The airport also sponsors various youth sports clubs in the surrounding area. For the second year in a row, Brussels Airport also wants to encourage other sustainable local initiatives with the Brussels Airport Fund.

Local projects in the field of nature and environment, energy or mobility that stimulate the connection between residents and their environment can apply for support. Sustainability is key: the project is not only assessed in terms of the positive impact it will have on the environment and climate, but also in terms of the long-term results. In addition, a clear financial plan and concrete objectives are also very important.

All non-profit organizations, youth movements, local organizations, unincorporated associations, schools, etc. in the area are eligible, as long as it is a specific project, and therefore not in support of regular operations. Think, for example, of a petting farm where a vegetable garden is being grown, a cycling initiative for vulnerable groups, a new playground in the forest, or a youth association with a social component that wants to work on energy-efficient and ecological housing but does not have sufficient resources to do so. This Fund focuses on local communities, so projects must be carried out in one of the municipalities or cities in the area.

The Brussels Airport Fund is an independent fund and is managed by the King Baudouin Foundation. The Fund manages the applications and an independent jury is responsible for selecting the projects. An organization can apply for project support between € 1,000 and € 10,000 per project. Projects can be submitted until September 16, 2024 via the King Baudouin Foundation website (https://kbs-frb.be/en/brussels-airport-fund-1).
