Successful start of the Transavia summer flights from Brussels Airport

Airlines

On the 30th of June, Transavia started its summer flights from Brussels Airport. All the first flights were almost fully booked. And the seat occupancy rate for the flights during the summer already looks very promising. The four destinations, Ibiza, Faro, Heraklion and Alicante are in strong demand and travellers have found their way to Transavia from Belgium. It is estimated that around 90% of the passengers are from Belgium and 10% from the Netherlands.

From Brussels, Transavia is flying passengers 4 times a week to Ibiza and Faro, 5 to 6 times a week to Alicante and 2 times a week to Heraklion. To make this possible, Transavia has stationed one of its aircraft at Brussels Airport. This coming winter, Transavia will be operating flights from Brussels to Tenerife, Salzburg, Alicante and Innsbruck.

Transavia already had plans to start operating flights from Brussels Airport before corona dominated the economy and society. In the last two years, Transavia has not only be planning and maintaining its network in the Netherlands but has also looked at the possibilities for the network in the long(er) term. And the choice for Brussels is still valid. That was shown in the recent winter period, with the successful flights to Innsbruck.

Strengthen market position

“Our flights from Brussels Airport strengthen our position on the Dutch and Belgium markets”, says Marcel de Nooijer, CEO of Transavia. “Many of our current customers and business partners are from Belgium and the south of the Netherlands. That is why we see the start of flights from Brussels as a good step towards continuing to satisfy the wishes of existing customers in Belgium and the Netherlands to fly to attractive destinations. For us, this means both exploring a new market and a good use of a strategic position close to our other home-bases in Rotterdam and Eindhoven. We are looking with confidence at our start in Brussels and, depending on the growth and demand, we will be investigating whether we can expand here as well.”

“We are pleased that we are able to welcome Transavia to Brussels Airport at the start of this summer season, with their flights to four popular sun destinations”, says Arnaud Feist, CEO of Brussels Airport Company. “This does not only strengthen our network at Brussels Airport but allows us to offer our passengers a wider choice in holiday destinations. Transavia is a strong Dutch brand with sustainable ambitions, and this makes them a logical new partner. We are pleased to welcome them into our airport family.”
