On Saturday 24 March, the fifth aircraft in the Brussels Airlines Belgian Icon series was presented to the public. Aerosmurf is an ode to the Smurfs and their creator Peyo.
The design is by the Italian Marta Mascellani and was the winner of a large-scale design competition set up by Brussels Airlines in 2017.
Each aircraft in the Belgian Icon series shows a piece of Belgian culture, which is then seen both within Europe and farther afield. The Aerosmurf is the fifth icon in the series and shows the popular blue cartoon heroes on board an aircraft. The other Belgian Icons are Rackham, Magritte, Trident and Amare.
Have you already spotted Aerosmurf on the tarmac at our airport?
