It will soon be five years since our airport and our country as a whole were hit in the heart by terrorist attacks. On 22 March 2021, these tragic events will be commemorated in the presence of the victims, their relatives, the airport community and various dignitaries, including Their Majesties the King and Queen and Prime Minister Alexander De Croo.
A minute of silence at 7:58 am.
The commemoration will be held in the Terminal, near the commemorative plaque near the escalators (Diamant). At exactly 7:58 am, the time at which the first bomb exploded, a minute of silence will be held in the entire airport. After the minute of silence, the victims and their relatives will have the possibility to lay flowers (or any other token) at the commemorative plaque.
Livestream for the airport community
Because of the Covid-19 crisis, we cannot organise a large-scale event. The number of guests has to be limited to comply with the sanitary measures in force. Especially for the airport community, the entire ceremony will be livestreamed via https://events.be/bac/alwaysremember/. The livestream starts at 7.50 am.
Please use an other browser than Microsoft Internet Explorer to watch it.
What if you, as a member of the airport community, wish to commemorate the events on site?
We fully understand that many airport colleagues feel the need to remember the events on site. Both the Memorial Garden and the Terminal remain open all day, including during the ceremony. If you wish to visit the commorative plaque, you will have ample opportunity after the ceremony to pay your respects and lay down flowers.
Airport employees who still wish to attend the ceremony in person are requested to enter the Terminal through Entrance C and, for security reasons, not to bring large bags, backpacks, candles or balloons. Please also bring your airport badge.
Need to talk?
During the event, psychologists will be present in the terminal to support you if necessary.
