This is the number of kilos of honey harvested by the bee-keepers of Brussels Airport Company.
Three years ago, the airport placed several beehives and an ad inviting people to sign up for a course in bee-keeping.
More than 100,000 workers, 10,000 male bees and 2 queens have since been lovingly cared for by various BAC colleagues, who successfully completed the bee-keeping course.
What will happen with the harvest?
This year, the honey will be sold to the staff, and the proceeds will go in their entirely to charity, for the benefit of other buzzing friends. The Knautia bee, for example, could really use our help. It is an endangered species. At the moment, a project of Natuurpunt in the Rosdel nature reserve (a valley area near Hoegaarden) is underway, and it could really use our support.
