Commuting safely and smoothly to Brussels Airport by bike
If you live in Flemish Brabant and are keen on biking, then we have good news for you ! In a few months, you will be able to get to work by bike, safely and smoothly.
Brussels Airport Company has been investing in sustainable mobility solutions for many years. The airport site can easily be reached by train, (tram)bus and – shortly – also by tram. Another eco-friendly means of transport, which is increasingly popular, is the bike. Over these past few years, a growing number of people travel by bike – both regular bikes and e-bikes. We likewise see a sharp rise in the use of the bike to commute between home and work.
Commuting by bike has numerous advantages. Avoiding traffic jams, arriving at work less stressed and keeping in shape, are but a few. Brussels Airport Company has decided to co-invest in the construction of a branch off the F3 Leuven-Brussels cycle highway to Brussels Airport. The aim is to allow and even encourage airport staff and the sportier passengers to bike to the airport in a smooth and safe way.
The F3 passes along the train stations of Leuven, Herent, Veltem, Erps-Kwerps, Kortenberg, Nossegem and Zaventem and in Brussels connects to the regional cycle route 1b. With the new branch, Brussels Airport will become part of that network.
Works on the construction of the branch started on the 1st of September and will take about four months. The 2km-connection to the airport will be built mainly on the bed of the old railroad track. The excavation works are in full swing at the Heidestraat. The project is a collaboration between the Flemish Government, the Province of Flemish-Brabant and the municipality of Zaventem. Brussels Airport Company is in charge of the execution of the works.
In a few months time, you will be able to bike to the airport rapidly and in all safety!
