Belgian comics in the spotlight

As gateway to Belgium, we believe it’s our duty to show off our ‘Belgian Treasures’. Until mid-November, the Belgian comic book has place of honour at our airport.

When people hear Belgian Treasures, they immediately think of chocolates, beer, fries and fashion. But we are also the comic book country par excellence. Comic book characters like Tintin, Spike & Suzy, the Smurfs and Lucky Luke are unmistakably part of our culture.

Our comic book heroes are an export product. Tintin albums have been printed in more than a hundred languages and over a quarter of a billion of them have been sold. The Smurfs are also known all over the world. Both our intrepid reporter and the little blue creatures saw their adventures turned into a movie. And even the Spike & Suzy albums were translated in several languages, from Afrikaans to Swedish.

To draw extra attention to the Belgian comics, our colleagues from Passenger Experience made sure Connector and the commercial zone of Pier B were decorated in a comic book theme. In Connector, Spike and Suzy and their companions steal the show, while the Smurfs claim all the attention in Pier B.

Besides cosy reading corners where passengers can read the first pages of comics via a QR code, we also have fun Instagram backdrops and a contest. Passengers who post a picture of themselves in or in front of one of these backdrops on their social media will have a chance to win a ticket for two for the Comics Art Museum in Brussels.
