First fleet of e-buses

Sustainability has been a focus of Brussels Airport for a long time. In this respect, we continuously endeavour to evaluate and improve our impact on the environment where possible. That’s why all passenger buses used to carry passengers between the terminal and the aircraft are now being replaced by more modern e-buses.

As of March 2019, the bus that carries passengers from or to their plane at Brussels Airport will be electric. The advantages? They make hardly any sound, are environmentally friendly (no CO2 emissions) and are equipped with modern facilities. There is, for example, free Wi-Fi on board, USB charging ports, and the passengers can consult digital information about their flight and safety regulations. The aim is to provide the same level of comfort on the way to the flight as there is in the terminal building.

First test phase

The first buses will be tested in January and February 2019, with training courses for the drivers. From March onwards the final switch to electric buses will be made. In this way, we can provide an even better service to our passengers.

International product

The construction of the new buses will be performed by the Chinese car manufacturer Build Your Dream. The development of the parts happens largely in China, the actual assembly of the parts takes place in Hungary. The charging infrastructure for this project is co-financed by the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), the financing instrument of the EU, via BENEFIC.
