On 6 and 7 December, Star Alliance organised its half-yearly CEO meeting in Brussels, 10 years after the previous meeting when Brussels Airlines joined the alliance.
Brussels Airport invited the participating CEOs and other representatives of the airlines to an exclusive dinner in the Jubel Park in the Museum of Art & History. Our guests were able to enjoy personally the very best of Belgium, with a 270 degree video project of Belgium, a performance by the Scala girls’ choir and a special menu by our own two star chef David Martin.
On Saturday 7 December the actual meeting of the Chief Executive Board of Star Alliance began with a presentation by Arnaud Feist, CEO of Brussels Airport Company, about Brussels Airport and the position of Star Alliance, the growth of our network and our investments in expansion and sustainability.
During the closed meeting that followed, Star Alliance identified, in compliance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), four focus areas on which the affiliated airlines will concentrate their improvement efforts. These initiatives are a combination of short-term results and long-term objectives:
- Sustainable aircraft fuel
- Carbon offsetting
- Waste management
- Supply Chain Management
Jeffrey Goh, CEO Star Alliance, said: “I am delighted to see that there is a broad consensus among our airline members to do our bit for sustainability. As the world’s largest airline alliance, with a combined fleet of more than 5,000 aircraft, we have the possibility and the responsibility of making a difference and we shall continue to invest in emission reducing initiatives until we have reached our ultimate goal of net zero CO2 emissions.”
“It was an honour for Brussels Airport to host the meeting of the Star Alliance Chief Executive Board and I am delighted that our airline partners are pursuing the same objectives to reduce the CO2 emissions as we are at Brussels Airport,” said Arnaud Feist, CEO of Brussels Airport Company.
