As you know, the aviation sector is increasingly being mentioned in climate discussions. How can we respond to the constant increase in passenger traffic and air freight while taking into account environmental challenges? I am convinced that the growth of the aviation sector can be achieved in a sustainable and balanced way, but this requires a proactive and ambitious policy on the part of the various players in the sector.
The aviation sector has already taken various initiatives to reduce its environmental footprint. For example, the latest generation of aircraft that consume much less fuel and make much less noise. There has also been a significant increase in aircraft load factors, which makes it possible to increase passenger traffic without necessarily increasing the number of flights in proportion.
As airport operator, we have also taken many measures to reduce CO2 emissions on the ground, whether through 100% green electricity, the installation of thousands of solar panels, a fleet of electric buses and cars or the replacement of the conventional beaconing system with LEDs. These efforts have made it possible to reduce our emissions by 34% compared to 2010 and to ensure the neutrality of our own CO2 emissions in 2018.
Of course, our ambitions in terms of sustainability do not stop there. However, going further and further reducing our impact on the environment will only be possible if we have a common global approach. That is why I support the "Sign for my Future" initiative that I signed. Indeed, I am in favour of finding a coherent national approach to address the global climate challenge.
