As an airport, we are continually improving our infrastructure to provide the best service to our passengers and partners.
This year again, various works in the non-public area will take place, including the continuation of work on apron 3N (for the Passport and Gateway building - in blue), the continuation of work on apron 9 (for freight - in yellow) and taxiway Z (behind aprons 40 and 4, near the Brussels Airlines and TUI fly hangars - in red).
What happens exactly?
Both apron 3N and taxiway INN9 as well as apron 9 and taxiway N2 will be thoroughly renovated. This work started last year and will resume this year. The concrete layer will be replaced (aprons) as well as the asphalt layer (taxiways).
On apron 9, 400Hz connections will be installed: aircraft will no longer have to use their own generator. Docking Guidance Systems will also be installed: aircraft will be able to park without the help of a marshaller.
Work will continue until the end of October on apron 3, and until the end of September 2020 on apron 9 and the N2 taxiway. All this work will be carried out in phases in order to limit the operational impact.
The two upper layers of asphalt on taxiway Z were removed and two new layers were laid. It covers an area of 50,000 m². New sewers were built along a length of 710 metres. The beaconing system was replaced by LED lamps and suitable cables.
Limited impact for airport employees
We have informed all airport partners and other stakeholders of the completion of this work. In this way, they get a glimpse of what is happening at our airport and an idea of the impact they can expect. However, Brussels Airport does everything in its power to minimise them.
