The set-up of the APOC (Airport Operations Centre) at Brussels airport is unique in the world. Indeed, few airports boast such an original concept: an operational nerve centre in which multiple parties are physically working together side-by-side.
But who exactly are the APOC employees working in the operational heart of our airport?
Who can be found in the APOC?
Various airport partners have a presence in the APOC, including Brussels Airport Company, ground handling services, airlines and security services companies.
Finger on the pulse
William Pyfferoen, one of the APOC managers, reveals: “All in all, approximately 150 people work at this location. On average, some 30 people are present at any one time.
The APOC is manned by certain services 24/7. We collectively monitor operations minute by minute, and fine-tune where necessary.
The advantages of such an approach are evidenced in our daily operations. We benefit from extremely short lines of communication. This allows us to maintain a helicopter view on all aspects, and rapidly inform and steer other parties where and when required.
APOC recently moved to a new location. The new premises are a major improvement: the location is more central, and the space more pleasant and well laid out. And whilst we are not visible on the field, the various teams work hard there to ensure that operations run smoothly and efficiently, day in day out."
